Middle School and High School
Middle School Academic & Applied Programs (Grades 6–8)
At Bridgeway Academy, our Middle School Academic and Applied Programs provide students with a strong foundation for future learning while nurturing independence and self-confidence.
Academic Program:
Students follow the Ohio Academic Learning Standards and/or the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce (ODEW) Extended Content Standards in Math, English Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies. Instruction is delivered through structured classroom lessons, curriculum-based activities, and ongoing assessments. Students also participate in academic enrichment through community partnerships. Life skills instruction is woven into the school day and includes self-monitoring, financial literacy, self-advocacy, self-care, and early planning for post-secondary pathways.
Applied Program:
Students follow the ODEW Extended Content Standards with instruction delivered through functional, hands-on learning experiences. Skills are practiced across multiple environments—including classrooms, therapy spaces, throughout campus, and in the community—to promote generalization and independence. Life skills instruction emphasizes self-advocacy, community safety, personal care, leisure skills, and independent self-monitoring. Across both programs, middle school students begin developing pre-vocational awareness through community-based instruction, career exploration activities, and foundational employability skills practice. Our goal is to prepare students for a confident transition into high school and beyond.
High School Academic & Applied Programs (Grades 9–Age 21)
The High School Academic and Applied Programs at Bridgeway Academy are designed to prepare students for meaningful, independent lives after graduation.
Academic Program:
Students continue working within the Ohio Academic Learning Standards and/or ODEW Extended Content Standards in core subject areas. Instruction includes classroom-based curriculum, assignments, assessments, and enrichment opportunities through community partnerships. Academic learning is paired with individualized life skills instruction, focusing on financial literacy, self-advocacy, self-care, self-monitoring, and comprehensive post-secondary planning aligned to each student’s goals.
Applied Program:
Students receive standards-based instruction delivered through functional academics, with skills practiced in real-world settings to promote independence and mastery. Instruction occurs across classrooms, therapy spaces, campus environments, and community locations. Life skills programming emphasizes personal care, community safety, leisure skills, and increased independence in daily living.
Students in both programs participate in structured pre-vocational and vocational training, including community-based instruction, career exploration, and hands-on work experience. Independence in transition-related skills becomes a central focus, with frequency and intensity of programming tailored to student needs.
Our shared mission is to ensure every student graduates prepared to be as independent and successful as possible in life after Bridgeway.
